Both the US men’s and women’s teams got off to a convincing start at this weekend’s World Rugby Sevens Series event in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, qualifying for Friday’s group stage to Saturday’s knockout stage. With less than two years to go until the 2024 Paris Olympics, this year’s Seven Series has additional stakes to ensure the top four men’s and women’s teams qualify for the Olympics. The men’s season kicked off in Hong Kong last month and Dubai will be the first women’s season of the 2022-23 season. The US men swept the match in his play of three pools. It all started with a narrow 19:14 victory over Canada. It was a close game early on, but two tries in two minutes gave the USA a big lead. They were able to keep Canada at bay for the rest of the game.
The men rode the momentum and dominated Japan 43–7 in the next game, with another player scoring all seven tries. The pool match saw a come-from-behind victory over Samoa, giving the American top spot in Pool D. Samoa led 12-7 at halftime, but the US defense remained tenacious in the second half, not conceding a single point. Kevon Williams scored an 11th-minute try to give the USA a 14-12 victory.

The men will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face his second-place team in Group A. USA men’s quarterfinals 1-1. Saturday at 50:00 PM ET. Meanwhile, the US women finished second in Pool B, 2-1. The American defeated Canada in her opening match, 12-7. The team got off to a strong start with two tries in the first five minutes. Canada got his one back but didn’t find a second. Another quick start in the second game saw the United States beat China 17-7. The USA scored her three tries in the first half, two of them in her first two minutes. China scored a try in the 12th minute. But that was the only result of their game.
