Dylan Guenther’s journey to hockey stardom began when he was selected by the Edmonton Oil Kings with the first pick of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft. This marked the start of his career in the Western Hockey League (WHL), one of Canada’s premier junior leagues.
In the 2018-19 season, Guenther made his debut with the Oil Kings displaying his potential by scoring three goals and amassing four points in his first eight WHL games. It was clear that a budding star had arrived.
The 2019-20 season proved to be a breakthrough year for Dylan Guenther. Just over a month later, on August 31, 2021, Guenther signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Coyotes officially embarking on his NHL journey.
Guenther’s return to the WHL for the 2021-22 season was nothing short of spectacular. Leading the Edmonton Oil Kings with an astonishing 45 goals and 91 points. He showcased his scoring prowess and playmaking abilities reaffirming his status as a future NHL star.
In the subsequent playoffs, Guenther continued to shine leading the Oil Kings with 13 goals and 21 points. His outstanding performance played a pivotal role in the Oil Kings clinching the coveted Ed Chynoweth Cup.
In January 2023, a significant move took place as the Seattle Thunderbirds acquired Dylan Guenther’s WHL playing rights in exchange for seven draft picks. He was subsequently assigned to the Thunderbirds on February 5, 2023.
Guenther’s impact on the Thunderbirds was immediate and undeniable. In the 2022-23 WHL season, he played 20 regular season games with Seattle, amassing an impressive 29 points. His contributions were pivotal in the Thunderbirds’ success, culminating in another Ed Chynoweth Cup victory during the 2023 playoffs.
Dylan Guenther’s prowess extends beyond the club level; he has also made his mark on the international stage. In December 2022, he was named to Team Canada for the 2023 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. During the tournament, he dazzled with seven goals and three assists in seven games.
Perhaps the crowning moment of his international career came in the Gold Medal final against Czechia, where he scored two goals, including the game-winner in 3-on-3 overtime, securing victory and adding a prestigious gold medal to his growing list of accomplishments.
