The Philadelphia Flyers (7th in the Metropolitan Division), who have won just three of their last 19 games, will face the New York Rangers (4th in the Metropolitan), who are on a five-game winning streak, as they look to win consecutive games for the first time in five weeks.
The New York Rangers (16-10-5) defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 on Thursday at Madison Square Garden to earn their fifth straight victory, a season-high. After the Leafs tied the game at 1-1 with six minutes remaining in the first period following Filip Chytil’s (7 goals, 15 points) first-period power-play goal, Jimmy Vesey (5 goals, 11 points this year) scored a snipe in each of the last two periods. Meanwhile, Vincent Trocheck, who has 10 goals and 22 points, picked up two assists to surpass 400 NHL points. Next, New York, which is presently riding a three-game winning streak away from home, will go on a three-game road trip.
The Philadelphia Flyers (10-14-7) snapped a four-game losing run (0-2-2) with a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Thursday, capping out their most recent four-game road trip with a 1-1-2 record. Scott Laughton (5 goals, 11 points) tied the game for Philadelphia during the man advantage in the second period after the hosts took the lead with a power-play goal at 4:20 of the first period. Travis Konecny (12 goals, 26 points) eventually put the game away on a breakaway halfway through the third period. The Flyers, who had only won three times in their previous 19 games, received an assist on both goals from Noah Cates (3 goals, 11 points) (3-11-5).
