Sean Kuraly, Jack Roslovic, Carson Meyer, and Justin Richards, four members of the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets, will all be on the roster. Kent Johnson and Kirill Marchenko, two highly regarded young players, will join the front-line trio. David Jiricek and Denton Mateychuk, two 2022 first-round draught selections, are in the starting lineup on defence, while Daniil Tarasov, a goalkeeper, will make his preseason debut.
Despite being one of the best hockey players ever, Johnny Gaudreau isn’t quite an experienced veteran. The cannon that the Blue Jackets blast off before games, after goals, and after victories has infamously startled the team’s high-profile free agent acquisition in the past, so it’s safe to assume that even today, he’s not yet accustomed to the traditions of explosive celebration. Throughout the course of his seven-year deal, which he signed this summer, Gaudreau will contribute to many goals and triumphs, but even in the Jackets’ 5-1 victory against Pittsburgh on Sunday night in the team’s home preseason opener, things were still a work in progress.
