The Tampa Bay Lightning will take on the Colorado Avalanche in their bid to win the NHL Stanley Cup for a third consecutive season. If Tampa wins, they would become the first team to win the title three times in a row since the New York Islanders won it for four seasons from 1980 to 1983. As for the Colorado Avalanche, they last won the Cup in 2001.
The Lightning defeated the New York Rangers in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals to advance to the finals. The Avalanche completed a sweep of the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final on June 6.
