NHL action takes place at the PNC Arena on Wednesday between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes. The Columbus Blue Jackets are coming off a season with 37 victories and want to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since the 2019–20 campaign. The Carolina Hurricanes won 54 games in 2017 and have now qualified for the postseason four times.
Dean Kukan, Gabriel Carlsson, Alexandre Texier, and Oliver Bjorkstrand depart from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Johnny Gaudreau, Erik Gudbranson, Kirill Marchenko, and Mathieu Olivier join the Blue Jackets. A Gaudreau and Patrik Laine combination may be terrifying and strong enough to offer the Blue Jackets a realistic shot of making the playoffs. The Blue Jackets, according to some, are still a year or two away from becoming legitimate championship contenders.
The Carolina Hurricanes, a club that was strong last year, have seen a lot of personnel movement. The Hurricanes also lose Ian Cole, Max Dominion, Tony DeAngelo, Nino Niederreiter, and Vincent Trocheck. Among the players signed by the Hurricanes are Brent Burns, Max Pacioretty, Ondrej Case, Paul Stastny, and Ryan Dzingel. The fact that the Canes still have Teuvo Teravainen, Sebastian Aho, and Andrei Svechnikov makes them one of the top teams in the East. Additionally, Frederik Andersen just had his finest season as a goaltender.
