The match between the Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche will take place at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Canada on Thursday, October 13 at 9:30 PM ET.
The Calgary Flames will kick off their NHL campaign by welcoming defending champions Colorado Avalanche to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday. Calgary had a decent preseason where they recorded four wins and four losses. Their last preseason game ended in a 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Goals from Tyler Toffoli, Blake Coleman and Nazeem Kadri were not sufficient as the Flames came up short against the Jets.
It will be an interesting game for Nazeem Kadri as he will line up against his former team with whom he lifted the Stanley Cup last season. His former teammates were presented with their championship rings on Monday and Kadri could only attend the event virtually.
Speaking of the honor, Kadri said, “I’ve talked to the guys about it. They’ve been sending me videos and pictures of it, and of the ceremony as well. I just felt like a little kid. I was giddy, excited. They look fantastic. I think they did a great job with them. I’ve seen a lot of angles, so they look pretty sweet. It’s something we earned and it’s something I can’t wait to get my hands on. Obviously, it sucks missing out on that, but we’ve got a game to get ready for.”
On the other hand, the Colorado Avalanche got their season off to a good start as they defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2. Artturi Lehkonen and Valeri Nichushkin scored two goals each with Andrew Cogliano adding one as the defending champions started off on the right note.
Star defenseman Cale Makar had two assists and had a good game in general. Speaking about his team raising the banner before the game, Makar said, “Raising that banner, I only think it’s going to motivate us more to do it again. Knowing that we all accomplished that together and being on the ice together again, it’s only going to drive us forward.”
