The Buffalo Sabres will host the Ottawa Senators at the KeyBank Center for an NHL game on Thursday. The Sabres finished their preseason with four wins and two losses with their last match ending in a 7-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Vinnie Hinostroza scored the only goal for Buffalo as they were thumped by Pittsburgh.
Rasmus Dahlin will be entering his fifth season in the NHL and this season will also be his first as an alternate captain. Speaking about his new responsibility, Dahlin said, “It’s a big honor. I’ve seen a lot of great captains on the walls here since I got to Buffalo. It’s always been kind of a little bit of a dream. I’m very proud. I’m just going to make sure I keep working even harder.”
On the other hand, the Ottawa Senators had a good preseason as they registered five wins and lost thrice. They beat the Montreal Canadien 3-2 in their final preseason game as goals from Drake Batherson, Derick Brassard and Scott Sabourin helped them get the job done. Goaltender Magnus Hellberg also had a good game as he saved 18 of the 20 shots that were aimed at his goal.
Senators head coach DJ Smith was speaking about the latest additions to his team and had nothing but praise for them. Speaking after their last practice session, Smith said, “Seamless. Obviously these guys have built something here culture wise in the dressing room. All the young guys with the help of the veterans. The new guys have gelled in there nicely.”
