Keyonte George and the Jazz are aiming to extend the Wizards’ losing streak to 15 games. Despite Utah’s recent struggles, George, a rookie, is showing rapid development. In his latest game, he scored 31 points and almost helped the Jazz pull off an upset win against Miami on Saturday.

Scoring 31 points on 12-of-23 shooting, George has now joined the ranks of a few former Jazz legends who also made a name for themselves in the NBA. This is the third time this season that George has scored 30 or more points, making him one of only three Utah players, along with Darrell Griffith and Donovan Mitchell, to achieve this feat in their rookie year.

George will once again be given the freedom to shoot on Monday night in Salt Lake City as the Jazz return from a disappointing three-game road trip in the East to face the Washington Wizards.

In the 126-120 loss to the Heat, George made six of 14 3-pointers, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out four assists. Lauri Markkanen contributed 25 points for the Jazz, while Collin Sexton and John Collins each added 18 points.

Key matchups

The Jazz are now up against a Wizards team that’s also going through a rough patch. Washington has lost 14 games in a row, including two recent losses in Los Angeles against the Lakers and Clippers. Kyle Kuzma, a former University of Utah forward, has been a standout for the Wizards. He scored 32 points in Friday’s loss to the Clippers.

Utah beat Washington on the road, 123-108, on Jan. 25. The Wizards managed to win their next two games, but they haven’t tasted victory since defeating the San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 29. On the other hand, the Jazz have only won four games since their last encounter with Washington.

Washington is just two losses away from tying the franchise’s longest losing streak. They had a solid opportunity to break the streak on Thursday against the Lakers when Jordan Poole scored 34 points. However, the Wizards lost in overtime after Poole’s potential game-winning 3-point shot at the end of regulation missed its mark.
