It might not change their spot in the standings, but the Houston Rockets are finally showing some guts on the road, something they’ve been lacking all season.

They pulled off a close 103-101 win against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, marking their fourth consecutive road victory. This streak is pretty impressive, especially since the Rockets had only managed to win five road games all season before this. Next up, they’re taking on the Washington Wizards at home on Thursday.

In the game against the Spurs, the Rockets pulled off a win even though they were missing their top scorer and rebounder, center Alperen Sengun. He got sidelined after a nasty sprain on his right ankle and a bruise on his knee from a collision in Sunday’s match against the Sacramento Kings. On top of that, rookie wing Cam Whitmore was also out with a knee injury. Whitmore had been a key player off the bench, bringing some much-needed firepower to the Rockets’ up-and-down offense.

Key matchups

With Sengun out, and word on the street is he might be done for the whole season, things are going to stay rough for the Rockets. They’re already trailing the Golden State Warriors by 4 1/2 games for that last play-in spot in the Western Conference as of Wednesday. Sure, they’re talking about the whole “next-man-up” thing after snagging that win in San Antonio, but with their lineup taking hits, the Rockets are gonna have to really tap into their bench and rely on guys who haven’t seen much action before. It’s gonna be a test for sure.

The Wizards hadn’t been on a winning streak longer than two games all season. But after taking down the Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat in consecutive games, it looked like they were on track to hit that rare milestone against the injury-plagued Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Well, things didn’t exactly go as planned for the Wizards. They struggled through a measly 42-point first half and found themselves trailing by a whopping 25 points at halftime. Despite trying to mount a comeback in the second half, it just didn’t pan out, and they ended up with a 109-97 loss on the road.

This defeat not only kept them stuck at the bottom of the Eastern Conference but also highlighted just how rough this season has been for a young team that’s been struggling to find any sort of positive momentum.
