The Dallas Mavericks are pushing hard to dodge the NBA play-in tournament, and they’re riding a wave of momentum as they prepare to face the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.

This matchup marks the fourth and final meeting of the season between these Lone Star State rivals, with the Mavericks dominating the previous three games, winning by an average of 18.3 points per game. Meanwhile, for the Spurs, this game comes in the midst of a season-high eight-game homestand, with Tuesday’s game being the fifth in the stretch.

With just 14 games remaining, Dallas (39-29) is neck and neck with Sacramento and Phoenix for the sixth spot in the Western Conference. As of Monday, these three teams were trailing New Orleans by 2 1/2 games for the fifth spot and were 3 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers for the coveted home playoff berth in fourth place.

So, there’s a lot at stake when the Mavericks take on the Spurs (15-53), who currently hold the title of the worst team in the Western Conference.
