Ayo Dosunmu is keeping up his aggressive play whenever he gets the chance, and the Chicago Bulls are thrilled about it. After dropping a career-high 34 points in Saturday’s win against the Washington Wizards at home, Dosunmu will try to keep the momentum going on Monday when the Bulls take on the Portland Trail Blazers.

With guard Coby White out due to a right hip strain and missing his second consecutive game on Saturday, the Bulls have witnessed Dosunmu seizing the opportunity with more playing time and a fresh approach.

After the Wizards game, Bulls coach Billy Donovan mentioned that they’re optimistic about White returning within a week or so. While this might lead to some changes for Dosunmu, his progress has continued even when coming off the bench.

Key matchups

Portland kicked off March with back-to-back wins against Memphis but has struggled since, losing six out of their last eight games. Their latest setback was a 126-107 loss to New Orleans on Saturday. The Trail Blazers faltered in the fourth quarter, managing to score only 15 points down the stretch.

Anfernee Simons came close to a double-double with 25 points and eight assists, and Deandre Ayton also flirted with one, scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds. However, guard Dalano Banton stood out as the team’s most significant offensive improvement.

Banton, who joined the Blazers in a trade from Boston after starting his career with Toronto, took charge on Saturday with 28 points, hitting 4 out of 8 shots from beyond the arc. In his 16 games with Portland, Banton has been shooting 38.7 percent from 3-point range, a massive improvement from his time with the Celtics, where he shot just 12.5 percent.

Chicago is hoping to complete a season sweep of Portland after snagging a 104-96 win on the road back on Jan. 28. DeMar DeRozan ignited the Bulls with 20 points, continuing his trend of hitting that mark in eight consecutive games against the Blazers. Jerami Grant of Portland led all scorers with 24 points.
