Key matchups

Tuesday’s scoring performance is par for the course for Embiid, who has now compiled an impressive streak of 18 consecutive games with a minimum of 30 points. This achievement puts him in a tie with Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor for the sixth-longest such streak in NBA history. Embiid’s dazzling run includes overcoming challenges like sitting out three consecutive games due to knee soreness and missing seven out of nine games due to a combination of a sore knee and a sprained ankle.

Embiid opted for rest during Philadelphia’s 112-92 victory in Orlando on December 27. Tyrese Maxey led the charge with 23 points, while Tobias Harris and De’Anthony Melton each contributed 22, propelling the 76ers to success.

Harris showcased his resilience in the absence of Embiid, putting up impressive performances with 32 and 37 points against the Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings, respectively. Although he concluded the game against Denver with 24 points, he demonstrated his all-around impact by leading with a game-high plus-13, along with contributing five rebounds and two blocks.

Entering the kickoff of a three-game homestand on Friday, the Magic find themselves on the downside of four losses in their last five games. Their road trip concluded with a narrow 106-104 loss to the Hawks on Wednesday.

Paolo Banchero led Orlando with 26 points, but the game’s fate was sealed when Dejounte Murray hit a 17-footer at the buzzer to secure the victory for Atlanta.
