Key matchups

Now the Sixers are crossing their fingers, hoping they can even the series at one game apiece on Monday night, although they’re not sure if Embiid will be available. Whenever Embiid was moving fluidly on the court, the Sixers were able to open up the floor and create excellent scoring opportunities for their shooters. Once he injured his knee, Embiid struggled inside against the Knicks’ centers and wasn’t nearly as effective.

The Knicks found themselves down big as the second quarter began, but when McBride entered the game, he sparked a major turnaround. This led to the Knicks outscoring the Sixers 33-12 in the second quarter, giving them a comfortable 12-point lead at halftime. McBride’s 13 points in the second quarter actually surpassed the total points scored by the entire 76ers team in that period.

The Knicks managed to pull through in game one, and they’ve got to be feeling pretty confident after snagging a win, especially considering that Jalen Brunson was held to six points below his average and only made 8 out of 26 shots from the field.
