The Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic, both representing Florida in the NBA, share matching records of 21 wins and 16 losses.

Having recently suffered a 128-120 defeat against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Heat, who are set to face the Magic on Friday night, are undoubtedly disheartened. Miami’s disappointment stems from allowing the Thunder to achieve an impressive 59.3 percent shooting accuracy from the field in their Wednesday matchup.

In their sole encounter this season, the Miami Heat emerged victorious against the Orlando Magic with a 115-106 triumph in Orlando on December 20. Herro showcased his scoring prowess by leading the game with an impressive 28 points in that particular matchup.

Injury report

For the Heat, Smith will not be playing the game due to a knee injury. Besides, Butler (foot injury), Lowry (hand injury), and Martin (ankle injury) are questionable for the game. As for the Magic, Harris (calf injury), Harris (coach’s decision), Isaac (hamstring injury), Schofield (illness), and Wagner (ankle injury) will be sitting this one out. Besides, Anthony might also miss the game due to a thigh injury.

Key matchups

Devoid of the trio of players, the significance of Bam Adebayo and Herro is magnified. Adebayo showcased his versatility with an impressive stat line of 25 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks on Wednesday. Herro contributed with 17 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals.

However, the Heat are now placing their trust in less seasoned players like rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr., aged 22, and Nikola Jovic, aged 20, who have both stepped up to assume starting roles.

Jaquez earned the title of Rookie of the Month for December in the Eastern Conference, maintaining an average of 16.1 points. He previously secured the top rookie award in November.

On the other hand, Jovic has been a consistent starter for the past four games, boasting an average of 9.8 points in that duration. His efficiency was evident on Wednesday when he scored 15 points with a 5-for-8 shooting record, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Additionally, he contributed five rebounds and four assists.

While the Magic once soared with a franchise-tying nine-game win streak, their momentum has waned since it concluded earlier last month. In a recent matchup against the Timberwolves, the Magic faced a challenge with only 10 available players. Despite Moritz Wagner leading the team with 21 points, he acknowledged a noticeable lack of energy within the squad during the game against Minnesota.
