We’ve got a Western Conference showdown on the court as the NBA playoffs keep going. It’s a face-off in the Sooner State as the eighth-seeded New Orleans Pelicans hit the road to take on the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 2 of their best-of-seven series on Wednesday night.

In the series opener on Sunday night, Oklahoma City made a comeback to snatch a 94-92 win, scoring first in the series. However, the Pelicans managed to cover the spread as 8.5-point underdogs. Now, the big question is: will the Thunder keep the momentum going and go up 2-0, or will the Pelicans snag a road victory to even things out?

When it comes to their regular season face-offs, the Thunder has the upper hand with a 42-32 lead in wins, and they won two out of three meetings this season. Sunday’s game was the first-ever postseason clash between these teams, giving the Thunder a 1-0 lead in playoff history.

Key matchups

New Orleans had opportunities to grab the first game of the series on Oklahoma City’s turf but ended up letting it slip away. Now, they’ve got to shake off that disappointment and come out strong in this game. They know they can’t afford to go down 2-0 before heading back home to the Big Easy.

For New Orleans to make some noise in this series, they’ve got to step up their shooting game from what we saw in the first game. Despite being tied at the end of the first quarter and at halftime, they need to capitalize on their chances if they want to succeed.

Oklahoma City didn’t exactly light it up, considering they’re the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs. But hey, they still got the win in the first game of this series. It’s not surprising that they faced some challenges, considering the team’s young and most of the players were experiencing their first playoff game on Sunday.

Now that they’ve dealt with those initial nerves, you’d expect to see a big improvement in their game moving forward. The fact that Oklahoma City pulled off a win, even in a rough game, has got to give them a confidence boost for the rest of this series and maybe even beyond.
