Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers is the frontrunner to win the MVP award according to Brooklyn Nets superstar, Kevin Durant. Durant told the media about his pick after the Nets defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 128-123 at the Barclays Center.

The Nets talisman also picked others for the top prize but finally stuck with Embiid. He said, “If I had to take a guess, I would go between Joel Embiid, DeMar DeRozan, Ja Morant – those are my top 3. I would probably go Joel. Could throw [Nikola] Jokic in there but I’d go Joel. There’s so many great players playing at a high level. Like I said the other day, the league is in a great place.”

Former finals MVP, Durant, who is currently having a fantastic season is averaging 29.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6 assists per game. With such numbers, Durant might have been one of the candidates himself but injuries have played spoilsport and have kept him out for 27 games.

Durant not frustrated at missing out on MVP honour

When asked if he felt frustrated about missing out on a chance to become the MVP this season, Durant said, “Naah, it’s not frustrating. I have experienced what it is to win MVP. It doesn’t validate me as a player. I know what I can do. It’s always great to get some hometown love, for fans to recognize you as one of the best players in the league, but I wouldn’t say I’m pissed off or that I’m mad. It’s just part of the game.”

The Nets are currently 29-15 with Kevin Durant in their lineup as opposed to 8-19 without him. With the 12-time All-Star back to full fitness and also having Kyrie Irving available for the away games, the Brooklyn Nets will look to move higher than the eighth spot that they currently hold in the Eastern Conference.
