When the Miami Heat take on the Dallas Mavericks this Thursday, it’s a clash between teams heading in different directions. Miami is riding high after securing their fifth win in six games since coming back from the All-Star break on Feb. 23, defeating the Detroit Pistons 118-110 on Tuesday.

Jimmy Butler led the charge with 26 points for the Heat, and he had plenty of help with five other players hitting double figures, including Bam Adebayo and Duncan Robinson, who both put up 18 points. This was Robinson’s fourth game in a row scoring in double digits and his eighth game with at least 12 points in Miami’s last nine outings.

Robinson has been filling in for Tyler Herro, the Heat’s top scorer averaging 20.8 points per game, for the past five games. Herro’s still out due to a foot injury.

Key matchups

Miami has been on fire lately, winning 9 out of their last 11 games since February 6th. On the flip side, the Mavericks have been struggling, losing their third straight game and fifth in the last six on Tuesday with a 137-120 defeat at home against the Indiana Pacers.

Even though Luka Doncic had a stellar performance with his 14th triple-double of the season, scoring 39 points, dishing out 11 assists, and grabbing 10 rebounds, the Mavericks couldn’t stop the Pacers’ offense. Dallas has been struggling defensively, allowing an average of 129 points per game over their last six contests.

The Mavericks have been struggling defensively, leading to a 1-5 record in recent games, despite Doncic playing incredibly well on offense. On Tuesday, he extended his streak to seven games with at least 30 points. During the Mavericks’ rough patch, Doncic has been averaging 37 points per game over the last six games, boosting his season average to 34.6 points per game, which leads the league.
