The Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers have recently found their rhythm and are set to face off on Tuesday in their second-to-last encounter as co-tenants in their downtown arena.

Adding to the mix, both teams will likely be swapping notes on their travel arrangements, gearing up for prolonged road trips. The impending Grammy Awards are poised to commandeer Crypto.com Arena for two weeks, dedicated to stage construction, rehearsals, and the extravagant annual ceremony.

Lately, the Clippers have been making significant strides, and it’s not just because they are on track to relocate to a new arena in nearby Inglewood next season. Winning 19 of their last 23 games, they’ve solidified their position as one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

In their latest triumph, the Clippers demonstrated their prowess against the Brooklyn Nets at home on Sunday, finishing strong with a remarkable 22-0 run to secure a 125-114 victory.

Key matchups

The Clippers have experienced a resurgence since the early November acquisition of James Harden, who took over Russell Westbrook’s spot in the starting lineup. In Sunday’s game, both players showcased their skills, with Harden contributing 24 points and 10 assists, while Westbrook, coming off the bench, added 23 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

Despite a challenging start, where the Clippers trailed 16-0 and faced an 18-point deficit in the second half, they managed to secure the win. This victory occurred on a night when Kawhi Leonard and Paul George faced difficulties in finding their rhythm early in the game.

The Lakers have been on an upswing since reverting to their season-opening backcourt duo of Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell. In their recent 134-110 triumph against the Portland Trail Blazers, Russell shone, recording a game-high 34 points, knocking down six 3-pointers, and delivering eight assists. Reaves bounced back impressively from a 0-for-6 performance from beyond the arc in the loss to the Nets on Friday, nailing three long-range shots and tallying 15 points in Sunday’s game.

Despite facing notable challenges in the latter part of December, the Lakers have turned things around, clinching victories in five of their last eight games. This successful stretch includes a 106-103 win over the Clippers on January 7, making the Lakers 2-0 this season against their in-building rival.
