The Warriors are heading to LA to take on LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the Lakers this Saturday. Both teams have been bouncing around between ninth and tenth place in the Western Conference playoff/play-in battle, and right now, the Lakers are just one game ahead in ninth place. This showdown will be the third out of four times they face off, and so far, the season series is tied 1-1.

The Warriors got their score below 100 points for the fourth time this season in their recent 109-99 loss to the Mavericks in Dallas. Jonathan Kuminga took charge with a game-high 27 points, shooting 8-for-17 overall and 2-for-2 from downtown.

Stephen Curry, a ten-time All-Star, turned 36 on Thursday, making him the second-oldest All-Star currently in the league, just behind LeBron James of the Lakers, who’s 39. Curry has been sidelined for the last three games due to a right ankle sprain but is set to rejoin the team for practice on Friday after some sessions with the Santa Cruz Warriors. His condition will be assessed after Friday’s practice, giving us a better idea of whether he’ll be ready for Saturday’s game.

Key matchups

The Los Angeles Lakers have been facing off against some tough competition lately, with six straight games against teams currently sitting in the top six of their respective conferences. They managed to win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Milwaukee Bucks, and Minnesota Timberwolves, but they took losses against the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings (twice) during that stretch.

In the game against the Nuggets on March 2nd, LeBron James made history by becoming the first player ever in the NBA to score 40,000 career points. The Lakers have been on a California streak, playing eight consecutive games in the state, and they won’t hit the road until March 26th.

The Warriors have a lot of possibilities for where they could land by the end of the season. Right now, they’re trailing the fifth-place New Orleans Pelicans by five games but are four games ahead of the 11th-place Houston Rockets. They’ve got six games left against teams in that mix, playing the Lakers twice, the Mavericks twice, the Rockets once, and the Pelicans once. Only two of those games will be at Chase Center, with the Mavericks visiting on April 2nd and the Pelicans on April 12th.
