Having communicated their messages, which seem to have been well-received, the Los Angeles Lakers seem to have reverted to their optimal form. They have an opportunity to further validate this transformation with a matchup against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday.

Under the guidance of Lakers head coach Darvin Ham, significant adjustments have been made over the initial 3 1/2 months of the season. This involved initially removing Austin Reaves from the starting lineup early in the season, followed by a similar decision regarding D’Angelo Russell earlier this month.

Fast forward a few weeks, and the Lakers seem to have achieved a harmonious dynamic, reflected in their success with four wins in the last six games. Notably, during this stretch, both Reaves and Russell have been reinstated to the starting lineup. The team has secured victories against formidable Western Conference opponents, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Dallas Mavericks.

Key matchups

The beleaguered Nets arrive in Los Angeles following back-to-back narrow defeats, with their latest setback being a 105-103 loss to Portland on Wednesday, marking the beginning of a three-game West Coast journey. Prior to that, they experienced a heart-wrenching 96-95 overtime defeat against the Miami Heat on Monday.

In the recent game, Mikal Bridges contributed 21 points for Brooklyn, and Spencer Dinwiddie added 19. However, the Trail Blazers’ Anfernee Simons sealed the victory with a last-second basket in the lane, maneuvering through Bridges and Dinwiddie and shooting over Nic Claxton.

Bridges encountered a setback in the second half, even heading back to the locker room for a period following a collision with Portland’s Jabari Walker. However, he resiliently returned, nursing a lower-leg contusion. Notably, Bridges holds the NBA record with an impressive streak of 432 consecutive games played.

Coach Vaughn mentioned that Bridges will be “assessed,” refraining from confirming his availability for Friday’s game.

The Nets find themselves in a challenging phase, having suffered four consecutive losses and nine defeats in their last ten games. Since December 14, their record stands at just 3-14.
