While the entire NBA fandom awaits for LeBron James to pass Kareem Abdul Jabbar for the most points ever, LeBron decides to surpass another Laker legend in the meantime. The King overtook Hall of Famer Magic Johnson for sixth place on the NBA’s all-time assists list on Friday night against the Milwaukee Bucks. With 8:41 left in the fourth quarter, James passed Anthony Davis for a 3-pointer on the right wing to give Los Angeles a 112-108 lead, moving up to sixth place with his ninth assist of the game. James ended the game by putting up 11 assists to the Lakers’ victory.


LeBron James even articulated what this record meant to him. He said, “It means a lot, obviously,” James said. “The way Magic approached the game was very infectious. His teammates loved playing with him because of the joy he played with and the ability to pass the ball and get other guys involved. He was always excited about seeing his teammates be great. I always admired that in him.” The bigger storyline this season is how LeBron trails Kareem by only 936 points and the fact that he already has the most regular season points ever. It is a matter of time before the King takes his throne on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time record.

LeBron James needed nine assists to pass Johnson on the all-time list. The King put up 11 dimes for the night to secure the win against the favored Milwaukee Bucks.


LeBron took to Instagram to pay tribute to the Laker legend. He posted a mixtape of Magic’s greatest highlights and passes. LeBron was humble in surpassing his idol and wrote “Honored and humbling being aligned with the GOATs!#ThekidfromAkron #ThekidfromLansing”
