At 6’5″ shooting guard for the Washington Wizards, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is a Georgian native, who was selected for the eighth overall in the 2013 draught. He was made his league debut in the same year.  While studying at Georgia’s Greenville High School, many people saw him as a promising future talent. As a senior, he put on outstanding performances, averaging 31.0 points and 8.2 rebounds. The shooting guard gained recognition for his consistent play and was allowed to participate in the 2011 McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic. He committed to the University of Georgia after being named one of the best shooting guards in the country.

The Georgia freshman from Greenville made an impression and was selected to the Coaches’ Freshman All-SEC Team alongside Anthony Davis and Bradley Beal. The SEC Player of the Year Award went to Caldwell-Pope, who significantly improved in his sophomore season and averaged 18.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game.  After his sophomore year, Caldwell-Pope decided to play in the NBA, and he was selected eighth in the 2013 NBA Draught. A 20-year-old Caldwell Pope impressed in the Summer League by averaging 24.0 points in five games after the Detroit Pistons selected him. 

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope NBA Career

Caldwell-Pope played fewer than twenty minutes per game as a rookie, but the 6’5″ guard eventually earned a starting spot on the Pistons’ roster. In 2016, he had a 14.5 point and 3.7 rebound average, but he was cut short after the regular season.  He soon became a free agent after being released by the Pistons, and the Los Angeles Lakers signed him to a one-year deal.

Soon after beginning his Lakers career, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who received almost $18 million in compensation, pleaded guilty to his violation and received a 25-day jail sentence.  However, the athlete was granted a work release for practices and games under the condition that while outside the facility, he wears a GPS monitor and takes a breathalyser test.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Current Contract

On the Wizards roster, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is currently earning the fourth most money. His contract will be fully guaranteed if not waived until June 28, 2022, and he is expected to make more than $27 million over the next two years. Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, who also manages LeBron James and Ben Simmons, is the celebrity’s agent. Since joining the league, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has landed several lucrative deals. According to HoopsHype, his total salary earnings come to $49,880,815 in total. His net worth is unknown, but it may be in the $50 million to $100 million range.

Caldwell-Pope will receive just over $30 million throughout the following two seasons as part of his contract extension. Caldwell-Pope will receive $14.7 million in 2023–2024 and $15.4 million in 2024–2025, almost splitting the money in half, before becoming an unrestricted free agent. When he entered the NBA, Caldwell-Pope had already built up a respectable net worth, and thanks to his performance, he has been able to secure contracts that have significantly increased it.

Caldwell-Pope, who is now in his 30s, may no longer be offered long-term contracts, but his production should still enable him to earn high annual salaries that add to his net worth.
