The San Antonio Spurs kick off their longest stretch of home games this season as they welcome the injury-plagued Golden State Warriors on Monday. This game marks the second of a home-and-home series between the two teams.

The Spurs are looking to have their rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama back in action after he sat out the team’s last two games due to a right ankle injury. On the other hand, the Golden State Warriors will continue to miss their star guard Stephen Curry as he works on recovering from an ankle injury, which is anticipated to sideline him for a while. Curry’s progress is set to be re-evaluated on Tuesday.

San Antonio nailed it on Saturday, taking down the Warriors 126-113 in San Francisco. Keldon Johnson led the charge with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Jeremy Sochan and Malaki Branham chipped in 20 points each for the Spurs. It’s worth noting they were missing Devin Vassell due to a hip contusion as well.

Injury report

For the Spurs, Bassey (knee injury), Osman (ankle injury), and Vassell (hip injury) will not be playing the game. As for the Warriors, Curry (ankle injury) and Payton (illness) will be sitting this one out.

Key matchups

San Antonio saw some season-high scoring performances from Dominick Barlow with 19 points and Julian Champagnie with 17 in Saturday’s victory. Tre Jones also shined with a game-high 11 assists. Looking ahead, the Spurs are set to play their next eight games (and 10 out of the next 11) at home, with two of the matchups taking place in Austin, Texas.

Golden State couldn’t bridge the gap to within single digits in the second half on Saturday and struggled to find offensive rhythm and teamwork against the Western Conference’s bottom-ranked team. Despite the loss, Klay Thompson came off the bench strong with 27 points, Jonathan Kuminga added 26, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Andrew Wiggins both scored 11, and Chris Paul contributed 10 points along with nine assists.

The Warriors are hanging on to the 10th spot in the West, securing a spot in the play-in tournament for now. However, they’ve hit a rough patch, losing two in a row and three out of their last four games. This is the first time they’ve dropped back-to-back games since January 25th and 27th.
