The Philadelphia 76ers simply don’t have the same edge without their reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, Joel Embiid. Their only option is to persevere and aim for a deep playoff run, keeping fingers crossed for Embiid’s swift recovery and return to full health.

The team disclosed that Embiid underwent a successful surgery on Tuesday for the lateral meniscus in his left knee. His progress will be reassessed in approximately four weeks. The Sixers have struggled, boasting a 4-11 record in games played without Embiid this season, with their most recent setback being a 118-102 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday.

Philadelphia, enduring a tough stretch with six losses in their last seven games, including consecutive defeats, is eager to get back on track as they welcome the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night. Embiid joins a growing list of sidelined 76ers, alongside De’Anthony Melton, Nicolas Batum, and Robert Covington.

Key matchups

Tyrese Maxey, the All-Star for the 76ers, encountered double-teams for extended periods and struggled to find his rhythm, tallying just 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field. The Warriors are heading to Philadelphia aiming to secure their second consecutive win and their fourth triumph in the last five games.

In their recent 109-98 victory against the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State was led by Stephen Curry with 29 points and Jonathan Kuminga with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Kuminga’s impressive streak continues, as he has now scored at least 20 points in nine out of the last ten games.

Draymond Green provided stability for the Warriors with a well-rounded performance, contributing eight points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. However, Klay Thompson continued to face challenges, as he missed all three of his 3-point attempts. Coach Steve Kerr opted to bench Thompson in the closing minutes for the second time in three games.
