The New York Knicks have an opportunity to showcase their improved defense in a rematch against the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, this time in San Francisco. The playoff contenders clashed on February 29 in New York, where the Warriors secured a 110-99 road victory behind 31 points from Stephen Curry and 25 from Jonathan Kuminga. Since that matchup, the Knicks (40-27) have won five out of seven games, managing to keep their opponents under 100 points in six of those seven games.

In one of those games, the New York Knicks faced off against the Sacramento Kings and limited them to shooting just 35.5% from the field and 27.0% from beyond the arc in the Knicks’ 98-91 road win on Saturday night. It was the second-lowest point total of the season for Sacramento.

The Knicks also swatted away nine shots, with Isaiah Hartenstein rejecting four and OG Anunoby three. Anunoby sat out the previous game against Golden State due to an injured elbow, and Hartenstein only played for 20 minutes, almost five minutes less than his usual season average, and didn’t manage to block any shots.

Key matchups

Curry came back after missing three games in Saturday’s 128-121 road victory against the Los Angeles Lakers. He only made three out of his 10 3-point attempts, but Thompson nailed half of his 10 shots from beyond the arc. Once again, Golden State relied on their 14 made 3-pointers as a key part of their victory.

Despite watching his team lose two out of three games while sidelined, Curry put up 31 points in the win. However, he pointed out afterward that the now-healthy Warriors (35-31) are far from being solely reliant on him these days.

Monday’s game marks the start of a three-game stretch at home for the Warriors. Following this matchup, they’ll also welcome the Memphis Grizzlies and Indiana Pacers later in the week.

Meanwhile, after securing victories against Portland and Sacramento to kick off their four-game road trip, the Knicks will make a stop in Denver on Thursday before returning home.
