The Philadelphia 76ers will have another opportunity to extend the Detroit Pistons’ ongoing NBA losing streak, having secured a 129-111 victory on Wednesday night. The two teams are set to wrap up their home-and-home series on Friday night in Philadelphia.

On Wednesday, Detroit endured its 21st consecutive loss, matching the franchise record. Notably, the NBA’s single-season losing streak record stands at 26 games, shared by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2010-11 season and the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013-14.

Joel Embiid, the reigning league Most Valuable Player, spearheaded the Sixers with an impressive performance, contributing 41 points and 11 rebounds against Detroit. Now, Embiid sets his sights on guiding the Sixers to their fifth consecutive victory.

Injury report

For the Pistons, Bagley (back injury), Dugley (ankle injury), and Morris (muscle injury) will not be playing the game. Besides, Rhoden is questionable to play the game due to a back injury. As for the 76ers, no injuries have been reported and all players will be available for the game.

Key matchups

Tobias Harris chipped in with 21 points, and Kelly Oubre Jr. made a notable contribution of 17 for the Sixers, showcasing their dominance with a 53-35 rebounding advantage. Kelly Oubre Jr. has exhibited steady improvement since his return from an extended absence, recovering from injuries sustained in a pedestrian-vehicle accident last month. The incident left Oubre with a broken rib and other undisclosed injuries.

Since their promising 2-1 start to the season, the Pistons have persistently veered in an unfavorable direction. Detroit has now matched the franchise’s longest losing streak, a downturn witnessed at the conclusion of the 1979-80 season and the commencement of the 1980-81 season. It’s worth noting that the Sixers currently hold the NBA record for the most consecutive losses, totaling 28, a feat achieved at the end of the 2014-15 season and the beginning of the 2015-16 season.

Bojan Bogdanovic notched an impressive 33 points, complemented by Cade Cunningham’s contribution of 21 for the Pistons on Wednesday. Facing a shortage of key players, the Pistons had to navigate the game without Jalen Duren, Monte Morris, and Marvin Bagley III. The limited options on the bench became apparent as Detroit showed signs of fatigue, particularly evident in the rebounding category.

Hitting only 10 of 33 attempts from beyond the arc, grappling with defensive challenges, and unable to contain Embiid, the Pistons faced a trifecta of issues on Wednesday. Unless they address at least one of these concerns by Friday, the likelihood of their losing streak persisting remains high.
