On Sunday, the Los Angeles Clippers will kick off their series against the Dallas Mavericks at Crypto.com Arena. The Clippers are seeded fourth, while the Mavericks are seeded fifth, setting the stage for what’s anticipated to be one heck of a showdown.

In the regular season, the Clippers led the series against the Mavericks 2-1, snagging wins on the road and at home. Both teams are coming off losing streaks as they head into the playoffs, so taking the win in the series opener would be huge. Even with plenty of games on, this series is the one fans won’t want to miss.

The Mavericks are hitting the road for this Western Conference series opener, and they understand that pulling off an upset in the first game could set the tone for the entire series.

The Clippers haven’t been getting a lot of buzz in the Western Conference race, but sitting in fourth place, they’ve got just as good a shot as anyone else to make some noise.

Key matchups

Dallas has been solid on the road this season, with a 25-16 record, and they ended up just a game behind the Clippers in the standings. With their strong finish, some folks believe they could be one of the top-performing teams in the NBA right now.

Even though they dropped their last two regular-season games, they’ve still managed to win seven out of their last ten, which included a five-game winning streak before those last two losses. They had a tough time on the road earlier in the season against LA, losing by 19 points, so they’re definitely hoping for a smoother outcome this time around.

The Clippers have done pretty well at home this season with a 25-16 record, which is solid but not exactly mind-blowing, especially when you look at teams with the best home records in the league. What’s concerning is that they lost three straight games to finish off the season, and all of them were at home. That could definitely mess with their momentum and confidence heading into this matchup.

Fans are probably crossing their fingers, hoping that the Clippers can rely on their strong performances against Dallas this season to pull off a win in the opener.
