The NBA Western Conference has some big names and one of them is the Dallas Mavericks. The team from Dallas are considered to be powerhouses and with players like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving at the helm, it’s not surprising at all. They reached the Western Conference finals last season and were defeated by eventual winners Golden State Warriors. This season after the addition of Kyrie Irving, they will look to go one up from last season and make it to the NBA Finals.

Over the years, the Mavs have had some great players and in this article we will take a look at the top 3 power forwards in their history.

Dirk Nowitzki

Dirk Nowitzki is a once in a lifetime superstar. He only played for the Mavericks in the NBA and is considered by many as not only a Mavs legend but an NBA legend and arguably one of the greatest players in history. Dirk helped Dallas win one title during his time there and that was in 2011 when they beat the Miami Heat. He played the All-Star game 14 times and was awarded the title of MVP in 2007. A great shooter from beyond the arc, he was also good at defending and despite his lanky figure, was a good athlete. He retired in 2019 and deservedly had his jersey retired too.

Shawn Marion

One of the most versatile players in the NBA, Shawn Marion was an instrumental player for the Mavericks. He became a very important player after he moved to Dallas from Phoenix and was a key component in helping the Mavs win the NBA title in 2011. He also was a great defender and one of his main strengths was his ability to rebound as he averaged almost seven rebounds per game during his time in Dallas.

Roy Tarpley

Roy Tarpley was a maverick in the 1980s and was a great player for the Mavericks. After being selected as the seventh pick in the 1986 draft, Roy took to the team like a fish to water. He played a vital role in helping the Mavericks reach the playoffs in 1988 and 1989. Despite his obvious talent, he was troubled by various off field issues as he was suspended by the NBA for consuming drugs. This went on for a while till he was banned for life in 1995 for violating NBA’s drug use policies.
