The Chicago Bulls basically have one goal left in their schedule: to determine who hosts the play-in game against Atlanta, as they’re locked in as the 9th or 10th seed in the Eastern Conference.

However, their recent performance hasn’t been stellar. With just three games left in the regular season, they’ve only won three out of their last ten games. Their next game against the struggling Pistons on Thursday offers a chance to gain some ground.

Chicago (37-42) suffered a 128-117 loss to the New York Knicks in their final home game of the regular season on Tuesday. Coach Billy Donovan was livid with his team’s sloppy performance, especially highlighted by a fastbreak blunder in the second quarter.

During a play, Torrey Craig tried a flashy dunk by bouncing the ball off the backboard. Andre Drummond, thinking Craig was tossing him an alley-oop, moved in for a slam but ended up colliding with Craig instead. The ball ricocheted into the hands of a Knicks player for a rebound.

Injury report

Key matchups

To add insult to injury, Drummond ended up spraining his left ankle shortly after when he accidentally stepped on Knicks center Isaiah Hartenstein’s foot. With the loss, Chicago sealed the deal on finishing the regular season with a losing record.

Detroit (13-66) has to win its final three games just to match its worst record in franchise history. The Pistons are on a five-game losing streak and have dropped 13 out of their last 14 games.

In their last game, the Pistons fell to the Philadelphia team, losing 120-102. Detroit was hanging in there, down just 71-70 midway through the third quarter, but then the Sixers went on a 19-8 run to close out the quarter. After that, Detroit couldn’t bridge the gap, never getting closer than nine points for the rest of the game.

The Pistons’ star player, Cade Cunningham, has been out for the past four games due to managing his left knee.
