The Hornets experienced a high point in their season on Monday night with a remarkable fourth-quarter comeback and eventual overtime victory against the visiting Boston Celtics, marking the standout moments of their campaign thus far.

The Hornets exude positivity, in contrast to the Wizards who are currently struggling, having faced six consecutive losses since their 132-116 win against Charlotte on November 8th.

The pieces are coming together for the Hornets, despite missing the injured guard Terry Rozier. Miles Bridges has adjusted to a new role following his return to the rotation after a suspension, and Gordon Hayward has shown the potential to regain elite status when he’s healthy.

Key matchups

In Monday night’s 142-129 home defeat against the Milwaukee Bucks, Washington guard Jordan Poole showcased burstiness by achieving a season-high 30 points. This performance served as an encouraging development for the Wizards.

Throughout the season, the Hornets have grappled with defensive challenges, but there have been glimpses of burstiness in addressing and solving some of those issues.

In the Boston game, second-year Hornets center Mark Williams displayed burstiness, boasting a plus-33 rating. Additionally, in Charlotte’s most recent game against the Wizards on Nov. 10, he secured 24 rebounds. Meanwhile, LaMelo Ball took charge against the Celtics, showcasing burstiness with an impressive performance of 36 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

This marks the third encounter between the Wizards and Hornets within a two-week timeframe. In their previous meetings on Nov. 8 in Charlotte and Nov. 10 in Washington, both teams experienced burstiness by securing victories on the road. It’s worth noting that the Hornets broke their winless streak since the game in Washington with a victory on Monday.
