The Detroit Pistons might have around $60 million to spend on player salaries this summer. Word on the street is they’re eyeing Charlotte forward Miles Bridges. And guess what? Detroit will get to check him out in person when they play against the Hornets on Monday night.

Bridges can hit the free-agent market without restrictions because he took up a qualifying offer last summer. A couple of summers back, he seemed primed for a huge payday in free agency. But his career took a hit due to legal troubles linked to domestic violence allegations.

Bridges sat out the entire last season and got slapped with a 10-game suspension at the start of this one for Charlotte. But ever since he got back, he’s been rock solid on the court, especially considering his roots at Michigan State. In 53 games, with 51 starts, Bridges has been putting up consistent numbers: averaging 21.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.

Key matchups

The Hornets took a beating from the Washington Wizards on Friday, losing 112-100. That marked their sixth straight loss, even though Bridges managed to drop 32 points and snag 12 rebounds. But hey, they bounced back strong on Saturday, beating the Brooklyn Nets 110-99. Bridges led the charge again with 24 points, along with 10 rebounds and four assists.

In the victory against the Nets, Charlotte had some other key players stepping up big time. Rookie Brandon Miller put up 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Point guard Vasilije Micic dished out 12 points and 10 assists. Center Nick Richards also had a solid performance, scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

The Pistons couldn’t keep the momentum going after their 118-112 victory against Brooklyn, which marked the start of a six-game stretch at home. They got steamrolled by Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday, taking a hard 142-124 loss.

Doncic smashed an NBA record with his sixth straight 30-point triple-double, racking up 39 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. The Mavericks, shooting an impressive 55.4 percent from the field, took over the game by outscoring the Pistons 35-23 in the third quarter.
