The Boston Celtics are 0.5 games behind the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference standings. They have already won 44 games and are looking well-poised to breach the 60-game win mark this season. One of the biggest reasons behind their brilliance this campaign is Jayson Tatum. The 2023 All-Star Game MVP has been putting up elite numbers for the reigning Eastern Conference champions. He is averaging 30.1 PPG, 8.7 RPG and 4.7 APG and is constantly in the MVP conversation.

The 24-year-old led his side to the NBA Finals last season but failed to deliver against the experienced Golden State Warriors side on the biggest stage. Instead of dwelling on the past, Jayson Tatum has worked on his game and is once again focused on getting beyond the finish line with the Boston Celtics. Speaking to Doris Burke on Celtics All-Access, Tatum shared his expectations from the team heading into the crucial part of the season.

“Last year we didn’t start off great, but I think this year our offense has generated a lot of good shots. I think we all play extremely well together, this is kind of the stretch going into the playoffs where you wanna play your best basketball, you wanna be healthy, you wanna be peaking essentially, playing together, the best at the right time you know to give yourself a chance to win a championship that’s been our mindset this whole season, not me winning MVP, not guys becoming All-Stars, it’s can we get back to the Finals and have a different result than we did last season.”

The Boston Celtics have one of the most stacked rosters in the NBA. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are their best players, but apart from them, the seventeen-time champions also have the likes of Marcus Smart, Grant Williams and Derrick White, who are all capable of delivering game winning performances. Heading into the playoffs, the Celtics are one of the sides to watch out for in the East. However, it will be interesting to see if they eclipse their performances from last season and win it all.

How important is Jayson Tatum in the Celtics’ championship pursuit ?

Jayson Tatum is one of the best players in the NBA. This season he has shown signs of great improvement on both ends of the floor. Along with his on-court performances, Tatum has also developed into becoming a terrific leader. Despite his young age, the forward is the face of the franchise and the players on the roster are well aware of all that he brings to the team.

Currently, in his sixth season, Tatum has made several trips deep into the playoffs. However, the last campaign was his first time entering the NBA Finals. He came up short against the Warriors, but this time around Jayson Tatum looks to be prepared to cement his name as one of the best players in the league.
