Shohei Ohtani, also known as “Shotime,” plays both pitcher and bat for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball. In December 2017, Shohei Ohtani signed a six-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels and witnessed his childhood dream of playing in MLB turning into reality. Ohtani was named American League Rookie of the Year in 2018 and American League Most Valuable Player in 2021. For his historic season, Ohtani was included in Time’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2021. The Prime Minister of Japan also presented Ohtani with Japan’s highest honor, the People’s Honour Award, in acknowledgment of his achievements, but Ohtani declined, claiming that it was “still too early” for such an accolade. On May 14, 2022, “Shotime” hit his 100th career MLB home run.
