As per various reports, properties belonging to former Russian Formula One driver Nikita Mazepin and his father Dmitry Mazepin have been seized by the Italian government. The estimated value of the seized properties is about a whopping 87 million euros. Following Russia’s military exercise in Ukraine, the Haas Formula One team was forced to cut ties with Dmitry Mazepin’s Uralkali company and his son Nikita, who was driving alongside Mick Schumacher for the team. Haas eventually severed ties with Uralkali and the Mazepins.

Nikita and Dmitry Mazepin were soon added to a list of Russians facing financial sanctions aimed at punishing wealthy Russians with ties to President Vladimir Putin. According to Reuters, Italy has now seized properties worth 87 million euros from the Mazepins, based on information received from two police sources.

Nikita Mazepin said he would start an organisation to support Russian athletes who have been barred from competing as a result of the conflict after learning of his dismissal from Haas. He also discussed the situation for Russian athletes and his inclusion on the sanctions list in a recent interview.

“I don’t agree with being in the sanctions and I’ve said previously I intend to fight it,” Nikita had said to the BBC. “Perhaps now is not the right time because if you look at the whole situation that’s happening against athletes in the general case, it’s cancel culture against my country.”

Mazepin’s replacement doing exceptionally well at Haas

After removing Mazepin from their 2022 driver line-up, Haas reintroduced Kevin Magnussen, who last raced in Formula One with the team in 2020. The Danish racer had a fairytale return to the series, qualifying seventh in Bahrain and crossing the finish line fifth in the season opener. Magnussen finished ninth in Saudi Arabia, but he did not score points at the Australian Grand Prix, with a poorly timed Safety Car certainly not helping his cause.
