Speculation of an attempt to negotiate an extension was sparked recently when Hamilton stated that he would soon sign a new contract with Mercedes that would extend beyond the end of 2023. Lewis Hamilton told selected media outlets, including Motorsport.com, that “we are going to do another contract.” “We’re going to sit down and we’re going to discuss it in these next couple of months, I would say.” Mercedes team head Toto Wolff said his team isn’t looking for anyone else because the seat is “100%” Hamilton’s.

Role Model ?

However, he thought there was no need to rush things and that it would be easier to sort things out, including wider obligations outside driving, once the season was over. “We haven’t begun talking yet,” Wolff explained. “We absolutely want to finish the season and then find some calm time during the winter like we did last time, which literally began in the winter holidays and lasted over two months.” We have not done so. “But he’s much more than a driver to us now. Although we’re not talking about a career end, it’s also important to speak about his role as an ambassador for Mercedes and the many sponsors that we have, and the implication he can have in our wider audience.”

Mercedes is my Family

Hamilton has only competed with Mercedes engines in Formula One, having joined McLaren at the start of the 2007 season. He raced for the Woking-based team until 2012, winning the world championship in 2008, before joining the Mercedes works team in 2013. He has won six more championships with the team. Reflecting on his relationship with the German automaker, Hamilton stated that he had no desire to join any of its competitors. “My goal is to continue to be with Mercedes. I’ve been with Mercedes since I was 13. And it really is my family: Mercedes-Benz is my family,” he said.

“They’ve been there for me through thick and thin.” They remained by me even after I was expelled from school. They stood by me through everything that happened till 2020. They’ve stood by me through my blunders and the nonsense that’s been in the press; they’ve stood by me through the ups and downs. “I have a lot of faith in this brand.” I have faith in the people who work for the organisation. And I want to be the best teammate I can be for them because I believe we can make the brand better, more accessible, and stronger than it is now. And I believe I can play an important role in that.”
