VALORANT recently updated its cosmetics system, making it simpler for players to locate and organize all of their various items, from skins to player cards. While many people are merely thrilled about the new update, one fan speculates that it might actually portend even more changes to VALORANT’s customization options.

On Monday, this player posted a brand-new visual bug on Reddit, demonstrating to other users how a gun buddy had appeared on their equipped melee weapon. The player could even choose which gun buddy should be on the side of their VALORANT knife by rotating through several options while the knife was still visible on the screen. Each time, the friends clipped into the exact same spot.

VALORANT players believe the knife gun buddy bug wasn’t an accident:

Despite the fact that no other players have mentioned seeing it before, it appears to be a straightforward VALORANT visual bug. As of Episode Seven, Act One, there is no option in VALORANT to equip a friend with a melee weapon.

Although VALORANT is prone to bugs, the seamless integration of friends onto this player’s knife led some fans to wonder whether this feature was actually a mistake. One of the players remarked, “This almost seems to be a fully functioning idea that they either scrapped or are still working on.” “A knife buddy with a gun would be fire.” In the thread, other players confirmed these suspicions as well.

“It has to be,” another player replied. “The game would crash… that it’s actually attached to the knife basically confirms they programmed this functionality at some point before ditching the idea.”

In the past, buddies or charms on non-guns have been present in other FPS games. For instance, any hero in Overwatch 2 has access to weapon accessories, even those who don’t normally carry external weapons. On non-gun weapons, some might argue that these charms look out of place or awkward, but other fans think it would be a great integration.

A player objected to the charm’s practicality being so close to a knife handle. They explained that holding a knife in that manner was similar to having the shirt tag protrude from your back. Others thought it was a great idea to give players another way to customize their experience. They wrote, “Until now, I never realized how badly I wanted something.

In either case, equipping your friends is always an option. Even though it appears that the current instance of gun buddies showing up on a melee weapon is merely a visual glitch, the feature might eventually make its way to VALORANT.
