By implementing a new progression system that will include “agent recruitment events” starting with the release of Episode Seven later this month, VALORANT is eliminating some of the manual steps necessary to unlock new agents. Players have up until now been able to activate their agent contracts and obtain enough XP to advance those contracts to at least level five to unlock new or old agents.

Players also had the choice of simply purchasing the levels of those contracts with VALORANT points, or they could connect an Xbox account to an active Game Pass subscription to gain access to all agents. However, due to events involving agent recruitment in Episode 7, everything changes. The agent recruitment event will start when a new agent is made available to all players. Players will be able to access the new agent after earning a certain amount of XP, and this free event pass will go into effect on the day the agent is released (the Riot video shows 200,000 XP, but this could just be a placeholder or an example for the video).

However, there are alternative ways to gain access to new agents, just like in the past. Active Game Pass subscribers continue to receive immediate access to all new agents, and players can still pay 1,000 VALORANT points to purchase outright access to the new agent.

Additionally, players who didn’t unlock an agent during the recruitment event but don’t want to spend money can go back and use Kingdom Credits, a new currency that will be introduced in Episode Seven, to do so. Players can also go back and use Kingdom Credits or VP to unlock older agents that they still haven’t unlocked.

The game will still have agent contracts so that players can access the various agent items. Now that Riot is introducing the new agent recruitment event with the new episode, a launch in conjunction with Episode Seven makes a lot more sense. A “lethal” sentinel who “will stop you dead in your tracks and pull you in for a closer look” is the next agent. Episode Seven is anticipated to go live around June 27.
