Minnie is working with Riot Games for the first time, but Soyeon and Miyeon, two other (G)I-DLE members, have previously done the same for the virtual girl group K/DA. The group, which made its debut in 2018 with the single Pop/Stars, features digital League of Legends characters, and it has amassed a sizable fan base among followers of both K-pop and the game.

“This is Don Diablo, and I am in Amsterdam right now. I wanted to say that I really enjoyed working on this very special track together with the incredibly talented Minnie as well as the amazing people at Riot Games. It’s a celebration, of the first year of VCT Pacific. Hope you guys enjoy the ride. Let’s make it wavy, see you in the future.”

This isn’t the first time (G)I-DLE and Riot have worked together. The virtual K-pop group K/DA, created by League of Legends champions, is voiced by Miyeon and Soyeon, who are also members of Minnie’s group. They play Ahri and Akali, respectively.

The song’s accompanying original animation shows several characters engaged in combat across a cityscape where buildings are adorned with the names of the ten 2023 VCT Pacific teams. Character designs and the weapons they employ all have a VALORANT-like affinity for agents and rifles. The song “Making Waves” is quickly becoming a fan favorite and connects to the Pacific League’s current campaign.

Make Waves is emblazoned on the official VCT Pacific stream, stage, and merchandise everywhere. Enjoy the Pacific League finals, Minnie wished VCT supporters at the end of the video in English. It’s going to burn up, she exclaimed.
