The arduous job of defending Rohan against an army of Dunlendings now falls on Helm, who ascended to the throne in 2741.

The mortal men known as Dunlendings will eventually form an alliance with Saruman. King Freca of the Dunlendings forces the marriage of his son Wulf to Helm’s daughter in The War of the Rohirrim, an installment in The Lord of the Rings series. Helm, who refuses to be intimidated, unleashes a titanic showdown that will be remembered for generations. As a result of this conflict, the legendary fortress of Helm’s Deep will be named after Helm.
