Though each region’s official franchised VCT regular season has yet to begin, we have already seen a glimpse of VALORANT’s upcoming professional meta through both the VCT LOCK/IN tournament and the non-franchised Challengers circuit. The absence of a certain gold-firearm-wielding French agent who dominated nearly every VALORANT server in 2022 is the most notable shift in the meta thus far. Chamber’s absence thus far this year speaks volumes about not only his strength as an agent, but also hints at the game’s overall playstyle shifting in a new direction. Less Tour de Forces means fewer Operators, long-range engagements, and holding angles.

The Chamber’s agent in VALORANT pick rate is about to plummet:

But how much less has Chamber actually played in this season’s professional games? We can look at statistics from the VCT LOCK/IN tournament as well as some of the regional Challengers leagues even though we don’t yet have the regional VCT stats because the leagues haven’t yet begun. Despite the fact that Challengers is an unfranchised organisation, many of the players in these leagues have previous VCT experience, some of them even on an international level. First, it’s crucial to comprehend how dominant Chamber once was in order to comprehend his diminished stats.

Chamber played more games than any other agent at the Istanbul 2022 VCT Champions tournament. Over 66% of the time, Chamber was picked, and he was placed in multiple compositions on every map. In contrast, Chamber had a pick rate of just 2.53 percent at VCT LOCK/IN 2023 in So Paulo. This significant decline was probably caused, in large part, by the significant nerfs the agent has received since last fall, which have drastically reduced the value of his equipment. Simply put, there are currently other agents who can be more efficient than Chamber.

Additionally, this decline is not limited to professional play. According to statistics, players of all ranks on VALORANT servers are also no longer locking in Chamber. When he is selected in a ranking, he still manages to have a high win rate. This year’s professionals who chose Chamber haven’t quite had the same effect. Things seem to be getting worse if you’re a Chamber main. The VCT Challengers North America circuit, the most recent high-profile competition in North America, had an even worse Chamber statistic during the first split.

Only 1.39 percent of tier-two North American teams pick Chamber in Challengers. He shares the title of lowest-picked agent in that tournament with Yoru, a character who has historically had trouble fitting into the meta. Chamber may simply vanish entirely as the 2023 VCT meta develops, having fallen from such great heights.
