Ruri and her mother participate in a variety of outdoor sports as the events of Chapter 9, “As Normal as Possible,” of RuriDragon continue into Chapter 10. Ruri, who has a hard time getting the hang of baseball, observes her mother impress her with her natural talent.
While they’re taking a break from their activities, Ruri’s mom reveals some interesting facts about dragons and their thunder ability. She talks about a time when her dragon husband showed this capability. In her account, dragons harness the power of thunderclouds to unleash their stored charge during flight, resulting in a bolt of lightning.
Her mother is worried about Ruri’s health, so she tells her not to build up too much electricity and to release it often. Because she can’t soar over the sky like a real dragon, Ruri must keep herself busy with sports and other pastimes.
Ruri wonders what this means for her “human life” after discovering she can awaken nine distinct qualities. Despite having previously thought about it, Ruri’s mother decided against it with the help of Ruri’s teachers, and now she proposes that she go to her father if she needs help.
