Riot Games may be preparing a wide range of changes to damage profiles for several prominent top lane champions in upcoming patches as League of Legends’ competitive and solo queue meta continues to take shape. 11 champions, including Sion, Ornn, Tahm Kench, Mordekaiser, and Malphite, have undergone various changes on the game’s PBE server.

These modifications all relate to the damage dealt by the champions, and some involve switching from scaling ratio damage to base damage. Riot’s most recent tests on the LoL PBE feature significant changes to top lane damage:

As an illustration, Sett’s second punch base damage is reduced as he advances through the levels, but its AD ratio is also raised by 15%. The bonus AD ratio of his ultimate ability is also increasing by 60%, but it also receives a base damage reduction at all levels. At higher levels, Mordekaiser sees a significant reduction in the base damage of his Q ability, but he also sees a 15% increase in the AP ratio.

Similar to this, Malphite’s Q ability will get a base damage reduction at all levels but will have a 15% higher AP ratio. The movement speed steal of the ability has also been increased by 5% across all levels, making it more useful when pursuing adversaries or positioning for an engagement just before a team fight.

However, while some champions are receiving obvious nerfs, others are receiving increased durability in exchange for damage. For instance, Sion’s Decimating Smash ability is receiving a complete buff with minor damage reductions for both its minimum and maximum strikes. Later levels also see a reduction in his shield, which makes him slightly less tanky. However, by the end of the game, Sion should still have enough items to be able to take as much damage as he needs.

Since most of these top laners cannot afford to build enough damage items to take advantage of these ratio increases, some players are already concluding how these changes will affect the various champions.

They claim that these changes are straight nerfs that will have an overall negative impact on the Summoner’s Rift. There is still plenty of time for the developers to hold back or roll back these impending changes as they see fit. The next League update, Patch 13.13, is scheduled to launch on servers on Wednesday, June 28.
