Riot teases the future of League of Legends' popular Arena mode with an upcoming update

Because of this, Riot has been concentrating on developing a good summer event mode and maybe pushing forward to improve the product for a future release. However, it is extremely doubtful that Riot will alter its intentions for the mode until player response is sufficiently strong.

When Riot Games’ Soul Fighter summer event and League of Legends’ Arena mode launched together earlier this year, the new game mode quickly rose to the top of the charts. Players were switching between quick-fire sessions with one other friend as they rose through the ranks of a distinct style of play that gave the game a new flavor for both experienced players and newcomers.

League of Legends popular Arena mode has previously stated that Arena will be closing its doors once the Soul Fighter event concludes, but there is still some chance for those who want to see the game mode continue. Fans on the League subreddit were dismayed today when design lead Daniel “Maxw3ll” Emmons said there are already plans being considered regarding the future of Arena.

“Thank you for the kind words,” Emmons said. “We definitely haven’t seen the last of Arena; the team is discussing the future plans for the mode and none of the options on the table involve abandoning it. Brightmoon and Meddler will have a dev update soon that includes what the next steps are for the mode.”

Riot has been attempting over the past few weeks to moderate expectations for the game mode’s duration and the potential for it to become a permanent game mode. For instance, Bryan “Axes” Salvatore stated to the player base last month that “a really huge player response that sustains over time” would be required for Arena to become a permanent mode.

Because of this, Riot has been concentrating on developing a good summer event mode and maybe pushing forward to improve the product for a future release. However, it is extremely doubtful that Riot will alter its intentions for the mode until player response is sufficiently strong.

League of Legends popular Arena mode will currently only be available through Monday, Aug. 28, the final day of the Soul Fighter event, after which it will no longer be accessible. However, players can anticipate the Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee and Andrei “Meddler” van Roon-led developer upgrade, which will likely be made available “soon.”
