A new ability that might alter the game was revealed today with the latest trailer for The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet, and Violet DLC. According to the official Scarlet and Violet website, the new trio of Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti—previously revealed for the DLC—will be creating a stir in the Paldea region with a potent new ability called Toxic Chain.
Similar to a revamped version of Poison Touch. Toxic Chain may severely poison the target and is not always activated with a contact move, in contrast to Poison Touch, which can poison the target with regular poison when the user makes contact with the target. The screenshots from the official announcement show Toxic Chain being activated after Fezandipiti used Air Slash, a non-contact special attack. Right now, it isn’t confirmed if the ability only activates with special and/or non-contact moves, or if it also works with physical and contact moves. We also don’t know if it’ll have a 30-percent chance to be triggered like Poison Touch, or if it’ll be higher or lower. Smaller odds would make the ability a little more bearable and balanced.

If Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti eventually become legal in formats like VGC, this ability could alter the meta from a competitive standpoint. Players may adopt more stalling tactics as a result of the potential to seriously poison the adversary’s Pokémon, which goes hand in hand with the rising residual damage. Alternately, more Steel or Poison types who are all immune to the ability might start to appear in the metagame.

Toxic Chain may be giving the other poison ability a run for its money, though we all thought Glimmora’s signature Toxic Debris ability was cool when it was first introduced at the start of Generation IX.
