Since Chi-Yu is making its first appearance in VGC since Scarlet and Violet’s release, it’s more advantageous than ever to capture the Legendary Pokémon and learn how to create the best variation of it in a competitive setting. When examining Chi-base Yu’s stats, it can be seen that while its Special Attack and Special Defense are excellent, its Speed and Defense are acceptable, and its HP is rather depressing. Given how low it is in relation to its Special Attack, its average Attack stat is irrelevant. With all of this in mind, Chi-best Yu’s natures will be those that lower its Attack in order to raise its other stats.

Chi-Yu immediately thinks of the Modest Nature, which raises Special Attack while lowering physical Attack. There are two key factors at play here. At 135 points, Chi-Special Yu’s Attack ranks on par with Flutter Mane and just a bit higher than Gholdengo, Iron Bundle, and Armarouge. Additionally, all other Pokémon on the field have their Special Defense reduced by Chi-signature Yu’s Ability, Beads of Ruin. This implies that the fish’s Special offence will be even more potent.

See the list below for all Natures to consider for Chi-Yu.

  • Modest (+ Special Attack, – Attack)
  • Bold (+ Defense, – Attack)
  • Calm (+ Special Attack, – Attack)
  • Timid (+ Speed, – Attack)

You might want to concentrate on strengthening its Special Defense or Defense to make up for its low HP stat rather than its massive Special damage potential. With a Bold Nature, some EV investment, and an ally with Intimidate or Reflect, its Defense could use a little boost. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to give it a Calm Nature in order to increase its Special Defense even further. While Chi-Yu isn’t the fastest Pokémon in the game, a positive Speed Nature like Timid is worth considering if you plan on using Tailwind to double your team’s Speed for a few turns. Chi-Yu will be a true threat on the battlefield thanks to his incredible speed and damage output.
