A day after Patch 13.9 changed the meta for Teamfight Tactics, making units like Gnar and traits like Duelist more popular than ever, Riot Games is releasing a speedy B-patch to fix and modify for the foreseeable future. Lead designer for TFT Stephen “Mortdog” Mortimer tweeted about the patch on May 4. About an hour later, the update went live.

Gnar has had its base armor and magic resist reduced from 50 to 35, as well as its ability damage scaling decreased from 300 to 250 percent and its main target damage scaling decreased from 110 to 100 percent. In terms of both tanking and damage, he is essentially a weaker frontline now. Gnar is receiving a “reasonably sized nerf,” according to Mortdog, “to ensure that the comp is weaker in the mid-game and doesn’t cap out quite as high.”

Patch 13.9’s other major problem was the Duelist trait, which received a sizable boost. At the six and eight Duelist marks, in addition to receiving a buff for damage resistance, a bug fix made their attack speeds unpredictable. Many items or builds that prioritized attack speed received significant buffs when the team was able to resolve that problem, and attack speeds now function as intended.
The fix that became a buff is being removed, and Kayle will also receive a minor nerf to ensure that the Duelist comp isn’t still overpowered following the Gangplank and Kayle buffs. The only modification for Kayle is a reduction in the damage scaling of her ability from 175 to 155 percent.
