Riot Games introduced Mythic Essence as a new currency for League of Legends at the beginning of the 2022 season. This premium currency completely replaced the previous Gemstone currency while providing more opportunities for players to acquire uncommon in-game cosmetics. It is only available through purchasing Hextech Chests, levelling up event passes, or through rare drops in crafting.

The game’s Mythic Shop, which can be accessed by clicking on the Mythic Essence a player has in their inventory, is the only place Mythic Essence is used. This shop’s offerings change with each patch, but it always offers a variety of Prestige skins, Hextech skins, icons, emotes, and keys for sale. Each year, a new thematic will be released exclusively to the shop, with the Ashen Knights line being the most recent, according to the official Mythic Shop FAQ published by Riot. While the majority of the Mythic content rotates every six patches, two Prestige skins become available for purchase every two patches. Older Prestige skins that haven’t been vaulted will cost more Mythic Essence than ones that have just been added to the shop.

Each year, a variety of event-specific icons and emotes that were accessible through event passes throughout the year are added to the Mythic Shop. Additionally, players will be able to buy grab bags from the events that year, which are typically only available as bonuses for buying event loot. There is no guarantee that or when items will return once they leave the Mythic Shop. Because of this, players should make sure they have enough Mythic Essence to buy any items they particularly want from the shop before it’s too late.
