It’s easy to get lost in Riot Games’ plans for adding more characters to the well-known MOBA given that League of Legends currently has over 150 champions and has plenty more on the way. Depending on the type of changes the developers are introducing, these updates differ. It may only be a visual update in some cases. Other times, they concentrate on including a champion’s gameplay in the discussion. They also occasionally combine the two.

The developers can keep the game fresh all the time using this strategy. While updates bring new life to champions that are adored by the community without changing their core mechanics and aspects, new champions upend the meta and provide players with more gameplay options. If you need more information about League of Legends: The next big champion releases and updates in the game, then read carefully and don’t forget to share with your friends.

Next new champion: Naafiri, the Hound of a Hundred Bites

Riot unveiled two new champions at the beginning of the 2023 season who would join the League’s roster this year. The team has already welcomed male enchanter Milio. And now it’s time for Naafiri, a forthcoming Darkin assassin who, on July 19, will finally join League alongside her ravenous pack thanks to Patch 13.14.

Naafiri is an assassin who excels in one-on-one combat, which is primarily what she will be doing as a mid laner. The key element of her arsenal is her capacity to expand her pack as part of her passive, spawning dogs that specifically target the adversary Naafiri herself is pursuing. These Packmates actively hunt alongside Naafiri and are as tough and vicious as Yorick and Malzahar’s minions.

Darkin Daggers, Naafiri’s Q, allows her to launch a skill shot that pierces through opponents and causes bleeding, with a second charge that deals additional damage to champions who are already bleeding. Her Packmates will then take advantage of a successful hit on an adversary champion by sprinting over to deal additional damage, leaving enemies encircled by the squad mentality of a single champion.

In addition, if enemies are trying to flee while still carrying some health, Naafiri can easily target them with her W, Hounds’ Pursuit, which causes her to lock onto a target and jump into them, even over terrain. She can use her E, Eviscerate, which also functions as a small area-of-effect dash of damage, to refill her Packmates’ health bars if they are running low after a battle.

When Naafiri uses her ultimate, The Call of the Pack, the Darkin assassin’s collective minds become even more numerous and vicious, enhancing the champion’s speed and vision. This unleashes the assassin’s true rage. Similar to Master Yi, Naafiri’s effects from this ability will restart after each takedown, making her a terrifying snowball threat that foes will find challenging to escape.

Upcoming new champion: Briar

The champion roadmap for April also hinted at Briar, another forthcoming champion. We don’t yet know which role she will play, but the developers said she was designed with the intention of “exploring an insatiable hunger and what happens when that hunger sometimes takes over.”

As a result, we believe Briar could be a type of mage who feasts on and possibly devours her enemies, drawing life from their corpses, like Vladimir. The next champion will be an assassin, making it unlikely that Riot will ship another champion with similar roles given that the three most recent champions were an enchanter support, top lane fighter, and close-range AD carry.
