I've compiled a list of the top five characters in League right now, from top lane all the way down to support (as of Patch 13.14, which was released on Wednesday, July 19).

In League of Legends, there are close to 170 champions, each of whom has a special role and set of skills. Every character is viable in some way, but some are more viable than others depending on the patch and metagame.

I’ve compiled a list of the top five characters in League right now, from top lane down to support (as of Patch 13.14, which was released on Wednesday, July 19). The information I used was obtained from U.GG, a top league statistics website that offers players a thorough view of win rates. I made sure to stick with Platinum and above—I barely made it into this bracket, I’ll admit—to better represent the top tiers of League’s ranked queues.

This is the champion bible for you if you’re trying to earn one more victory to move up to the next rank before the season is over or if you just want to keep an eye on the top of the metagame.

3. Olaf

League’s marauding In season 13, Viking has established a small throne for himself in the top lane, triumphing in 54.11% of matches. Since Olaf is one of the best one-on-one fighters in the game, it’s not surprising that he’s taking over the normally lonely solo lane in the north of Summoner’s Rift. Nasus, Garen, and Urgot all have current positive win rates over him, so you can beat him if you want to. If you want to mix things up a bit, Zac comes in second with a win percentage of 53.55 percent, followed by Akshan (52.77) and Maokai (52.64).

2. Aatrox

Although the U.GG stats never lie, I find it hard to believe Aatrox’s win percentage this patch: the Darkin brawler is winning 56.67% of games when picked in the mid-lane. You’ll want to rush building Eclipse as his Mythic before adding items. Now, before we all rush out to play him, make sure you’re building him correctly. Taliyah is comfortably in third place with a 54.12% win rate if you prefer a more “classical” mid laner to play. Xerath, who I believe I’ll be playing this patch, is down in sixth place and boasts a 52.74 percent win rate.

1. Renekton

Although Renekton may not have a clear advantage in any particular League role in this update, I can’t ignore his staggering 54.96 percent win rate. Currently, playing the fighting crocodile in the top lane should result in a few extra free-ranked victories; this could very well mean the difference between placing in Silver or languishing in Bronze at the end of the competitive season.
